●上役にへつらう curry favor with one's superior

・権威にへつらう suck up to the authorities

・へつらうような調子で言う say sth in a cringing tone.

●あの男は上にはへつらい, 下の者には威張り散らす. That man cringes to people above him and pulls rank over those below him.

・最近のテレビは若者にへつらうような番組が多い. Recently on TV there are a lot of programs that play up to (the tastes of) young people.
